The site has a fun, quirky and visually appealing design featuring a funky pigeon in a crash helmet (what isn't fun about that!..hilarious). However, it's also a little crowded compared to some other sites and you can get mildly claustrophobic on first encountering the homepage. There's lots of information and pictures crammed in here, but once you get a feel for it you'll find it's not too tricky to find your way around.
There's a dizzying array of tabs that enable you to access the various categories of greeting card and gifts. At the top of the homepage are the main tabs (cards, calandars, gifts, notebooks, flowers). Clicking on the 'cards' tab will take you to their collection of thousands of cards. The sheer volume of cards available is very impressive. You'll find cards listed by occasion, recipient age, style (e.g. cute, floral, humour). You'll find most occasions catered for here, but the range will vary; whilst there are loads of birthday cards (3116 at the time of this review) there were only 254 anniversary cards and 50 retirement cards. That said, there's still plenty of choice. You can also find photo cards here, but not quite as many as you might find elsewhere (121). If you really want photo cards you might try KodakGallery.co.uk. That said, there are some great multi-photo cards that allow you to upload half a dozen images or more. The site seems to have a particularly good selection of kids and humorous cards.
The card editor is very easy to use and you progress through a series of steps with prompts to assist you with the process of personalising your card. You can personalise all cards with your own text and upload photos to create photo cards. The card editor allows you to add text to the cover, inside and back of card, change font style, size, colour and position of text. There's a number of card sizes to choose from small (from £1.79 per card) to large (from £5.99 per card). You also get to preview the card when it's finished just to ensure that it's to your liking before it's printed. It takes just a few minutes to personalise your card, so it's very convenient. When you order your card it's possible to select a despatch date and have the card sent directly to the recipient (free first-class delivery in the UK) or mailed back to you for you to mail yourself (an extra envelope is included). This is useful as it may be that you don't need to mail the card, e.g. if you see the recipient on a regular basis, so it's good to have that option. Cards can be mailed to any destination worldwide and you also get to select the meiling method used (e.g. you can opt for Special Next Day Delivery if your order is particularly urgent). You can also order multiple cards in a single transaction. As you'd expect, the quality of the cards matches premium high street store quality and the prices are great, especially if you take advantage of free delivery. The print quality is excellent, whatever card size you choose.
If you decide to create an account you can update or amend your personal information, create an address book to make sending cards even quicker and view your shopping basket, transactions and order history. You can also schedule date reminders so you don't forget another special occasion, and create a favourites list. It's also possible to add FreePay to your account, which enables you to add credit prior to purchasing. You get free credits when you pay by PrePay (including £5.00 when you join), so it's well worth doing. In terms of other features, there's a free iPhone app that allows you to upload pictures and personalise and send from a range of top-selling greeting cards. If you're really into the site you can also follow on Facebook and Twitter, watch FunkyPigeon.co.uk's own channel on YouTube and keep up to date with the official blog. Or you can just pop by, order your card and pop off again. If you have any queries or questions there's an extensive FAQs list, email support and a helpline (Monday-Friday 9.00am-5.30pm GMT). Make sure you have your order reference or email address ready when you call.
FunkyPigeon.co.uk has a really great range of cards to suit all manner of themes and occasions. They do especially well with kids and humorous cards, so you're unlikely to be disappointed by what's here. Whilst you won't find quite so many photo cards here, what they do have is some great designs that are bound to please. All cards are great quality, good value and take just a few minutes to create. FunkyPigeon.com will certainly make you 'coo'.
