Like Kodakgallery.co.uk and Bonusprint.co.uk, Photobox.co.uk is another site dedicated to photo gifts rather than just greeting cards. Therefore, the cards you'll find here are photo cards rather than the kinds of cards you might find down at the local store. There's a wide range of gifts in addition to photocards, including photo books, wall decor, canvas prints, posters and much more. However, for the purposes of this review an emphasis will be placed on photo cards.
Clicking on the photo card tab on the homepage will allow you to browse the card collection arranged by occasion (e.g. birthday, wedding, Valentine's) and theme (e.g. thank you, general). You'll find over 800 cards in the collection altogether; the number of cards within any one category will differ, but within the more popular categories such as birthday, expect to find around 80. Conversely, within the less popular categories (e.g. Hanukah) expect to find less than a dozen cards. This means that whilst some of you will be well catered for, others may feel a little disappointed by what's available. In order to save a little time, it's a good idea to use the search facility to narrow your limits. It's possible to filter cards by theme/occasion, type of card (folded or flat), format (e.g. square card, panoramic card, postcard) and number of photos on the cover (0-3+). Thumbnails of the cards are displayed along with format details and price (two prices are typically quoted depending on which is the cheapest; the cost of a single card or the cost of a pack of 10).
It's fairly simple to create and personalise your card. It's possible to select from a variety of card formats (large or small folded cards, square, panoramic or slim invitation/announcement cards and postcards). There are two ways in which to purchase them; either singly or in packs of 10. Whilst the whole range of card formats can be purchased in packs of 10, only the large and small greeting card formats can be bought as single cards. This makes some sense, as you're less likely to require more than a single greeting card most times, whereas you're more likely to need multiple announcement/invitation cards. In terms of pricing, you'll find the cards are fairly good value for money, especially as the materials used and print quality are very good. The folded cards are the most expensive, but you can save money if you buy in bulk. Other cards are slightly cheaper because they use less materials (flat cards rather than folded); Invitation/announcement cards will typically cost between £6.00 and £9.00. Postcards are even cheaper; if you buy in bulk, packs of postcards will cost you just £5.45. All cards are printed on 350gsm quality gloss card and white envelopes are included. Whilst the designs aren't perhaps the most stylish you'll find in this category, you do get plenty of control over the customisation and personalisation of your card. It might take a little while to get your head around using the card editor as you don't get many on-screen prompts to help guide you through the process. However, it's not difficult and once you can find your way around it's possible to create a card in just a couple of minutes, though uploading your photos can be a slow process. You can also save your creations to finish later. In case you have any problems or queries, there's some good on-site help; a clickable FAQs section that you can access from the card editor, plus live chat and email support.
Photobox.co.uk is a useful site that allows you to create a variety of original and professional-looking photo gifts, including a range of greeting cards, invitation/announcement cards and postcards. A reasonably priced tariff, especially if you buy in bulk, means that you can get some great cards without breaking the bank.
